Fujifilm X100F

The Fuji X100 is probably the most well rounded camera series ever produced. It’s small, compact, features an incredible fixed lens, and takes simply wonderful photographs. Put shortly, if you want something that is capable of pro-level photographs, but don’t want to hall around interchangeable lenses and what not, this is the camera you should get.

Anyway, Fuji just announced the latest version. Every online review I’ve read says it’s the best yet.

I’m not sure why it took so damned long for this one to be a reality… Essentially, it’s just a plug that is controllable by your phone through WIFI – making any device with a solid state on-switch a smart device.

Pro-Ject Audio Systems

So I got a genuine reader’s question over the weekend:

Ryan, I have $1000 to spend on a turntable and no time for research or messing with vintage stuff. What would you suggest?

Frankly, I prefer vintage stuff… and I enjoy the time it takes to find the right one and sort it out once I have it. That being said, if I were going to spend $1000 on a no-nonsense turntable that was ready to go, I’d get a Pro-Ject RPM3. It’s belt driven, simple in design, and comes with a Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge. Pretty hard to beat for the money.

Cinder Speakers

Daniel Ballou and Dashdot are developing a system that transforms the humble cinder block into a high fidelity speaker. Concrete is a low resonance material that minimizes vibrations and reduces coloration of pure sound delivered by the drivers. A drawback of course is that it’s heavy to handle and ship, and labor intensive to mold. However, cinder blocks are available throughout the world for about a buck (or free in a construction site trash pile).

This looks amazing… It’s a tribute to Steve McQueen’s movie “Le Mans” in comic form… and I want it!
