GOAT Modular Multi-tool

The end game in “Leatherman style” multi-tools is the ability to pick and choose which tools are onboard. Doing so allows you to create an optimized tool to your needs so you are carrying exactly what you need and nothing that you don’t.

GOAT is trying to provide exactly that and early reviews are VERY good.

Bastion Woobie

My favorite purchase in all of 2022 was probably my Bastion Woobie from Triple Aught Design. Essentially, it’s a remix of the old military wobbie utilizing better materials and the craftsmanship that TAD is known for.

My wife hates the damned thing, but it’s sooo cozy and sooo warm that frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn. I now own three of them.

Oh… but they are back in stock and won’t be for long, so if you have a hankering… get to it.

Nitecore Tiki LE

“Hey, that Nitecore with the pocket folder form factor is cool, but I want something smaller to supplement the light on my phone. Something rechargeable. Any suggestions?”

Have a look at the Nitecore Tiki LE. It’s 300 lumens, rechargeable, and smaller than a AAA battery. They aren’t usb-c, but whatever man… It’s a $20 torch.

Oh… and I’m not paid by Nitecore or anything. It just so happens that this torch is made by them as well. I don’t have any experience with it, but the reviews hold up.

Relwen Rib-Pile

I spend a stupid amount of time thinking about warmth when it’s cold outside. I detest the cold… And one of my favorite ways to stay warm is the Rib-Pile material that Relwen uses on a number of different items. It’s sort of like your typical waffle under layer, but it’s thicker and more substantial. Also, it has some stretch to it… but, more importantly, it has a good memory and never stretches past the point of no return.

Highly recommended.

Nite Ize 3-1-1 Pouch

I paid $35 for this thing last year and was pretty disappointed when I got it. It feels disposable and not at all like the premium rubber pouches sold by people like Magpul. But a year later and I have to admit – while these things are very light and thin, they are durable as hell and my pouch is still 100% waterproof. I have no idea why the material used is so unbreakable, but I think the biggest reason for its waterproofing is the zipper. It’s really great.

In any case, they are expensive… but damn do these things work well.

Belt Cable Duo

I have a weird use case in my car in that I use multiple devices from different eco-systems. Software clashes aside, the biggest issue is really the number of charging cables I have to host. This dual cable (lightning and USB-C) has solved that issue in style.
